Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC)
Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC) services are offered on an inpatient and outpatient basis. PICC lines are inserted, by specially-trained nurses, into a vein using ultrasound technology and can be used for an extended amount of time. The line allows patients to receive long-term IV therapy without repetitive IV insertions or hospitalization. PICC lines can also be used for routine lab draws and during diagnostic procedures that require IV dye, such as CTs and MRIs. PICC lines help to reduce complications that can be caused by many IV medications used in long-term therapy. Our staff also provides education on the care and maintenance of PICC lines. A signed doctor's order for PICC insertion is required.
Indications for PICC Lines:
- IV antibiotics
- TPN - Intravenous Nutrition
- Pain control
- Management of chronic disease processes
