Blood Assurance Program
RMC Blood Assurance Program
The Regional Medical Center Blood Assurance Program exists to meet the transfusion needs of RMC patients. Since blood is a vital resource that requires constant replenishment, the Blood Assurance Program depends on the active participation of community members to meet the needs of patients. Each blood donation can help save up to three lives. Blood can be donated every eight weeks. Most medications are acceptable such as blood pressure and cholesterol medications. Diabetics, who are non-insulin dependent, are also eligible to donate.
There is no substitute for human blood; it cannot be manufactured in a lab. Blood for transfusions MUST come from other people.
The Blood Assurance Program has a donor center located at the hospital and a bloodmobile for scheduled blood drives. All blood collected stays in the community.
The Blood Assurance Program Donor Center are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, closed Saturday and Sunday. Appointments appreciated; walk-ins welcomed. To set up an appointment, to ask about hosting a blood drive, or for more information, please call 803-395-2419 (toll free in S.C. 800-476-3377, ext. 2419).
