South Carolina BlueCross Honors Maternity Care at the Regional Medical Center with ‘Blue Distinction’ Designation
The Regional Medical Center (RMC) has been recognized as a Blue Distinction® Center for Maternity Care as part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program for the second year in a row, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina (BCBS) recently announced.
Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated hospitals that show expertise in delivering improved patient safety and better health outcomes, based on objective measures that were developed with input from the medical community. RMC was designated for safely and effectively meeting criteria for quality and cost efficiencies.
“RMC is proud to receive this designation for maternal care,” said Charles E. Williams, FACHE, president and chief executive officer of RMC. “It recognizes the efforts of our doctors, nurses and support staff to ensure expectant mothers have a safe delivery when they come to our maternity care unit. They work hand-in-hand to provide exceptional care and meet the needs of our patients.”
Blue Distinction Centers and Blue Distinction Centers+ for Maternity Care demonstrate expertise and a commitment to quality care for vaginal and cesarean section deliveries. These centers demonstrate better overall patient satisfaction and a lower percentage of early elective deliveries. Hospitals that receive a Blue Distinction Center for Maternity Care designation agreed to meet requirements aligned with principles that support evidence-based practices of care and have initiated programs to promote successful breastfeeding.
RMC’s maternity care unit, called Her Place, offers private maternity rooms equipped for labor, delivery, recovery, and post-partum care in a comfortable atmosphere. Expectant mothers at RMC are also offered classes to prepare for childbirth, breastfeeding support groups and resources, and car seat safety checks.
Since 2006, the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program has helped patients find quality specialty care in several areas including cancer care, cardiac care, maternity care, knee and hip replacements, spine surgery and transplants.
