Mary Taylor - 2018 Volunteer of the Year

Mary Taylor of Orangeburg was named the Regional Medical Center Auxiliary’s Volunteer of the Year at the 2018 Volunteer Awards Luncheon held at the Orangeburg Country Club in April.

Mary Taylor of Orangeburg was named the 2018 Volunteer of the Year by the RMC Auxiliary.
“The only true gauge of life is action – and the only true measurement of age is attitude – not birthdays,” said Mary Berry, director of volunteer services at RMC, as she read a poem to honor Taylor. “Ms. Taylor is always busy and on the go with her various activities, but she is never too busy to help out her friends.”

Taylor, a retired executive secretary, joined the auxiliary in May 2005 and has served the organization in various capacities. She currently serves on the auxiliary board as parliamentarian, on the auxiliary program committee, and has volunteered more than 2600 hours.

She is a salesperson in the RMC gift shop and is a member of the RMC Foundation board. She serves on the Orangeburg County School District 5 Foundation Board and volunteers at the Orangeburg County Development Commission. She is a member of St. Andrews Methodist Church and is president of her United Methodist Women’s Circle. In addition to her community involvement, Taylor assists with caring for several family members.

The annual Volunteer Awards Luncheon is held during National Volunteer Week. During the luncheon, more than 40 volunteers were recognized for achieving service hour milestones. Combined, the recognized volunteers contributed more than 20,000 service hours to the Regional Medical Center in the past year. Betty Furtick was recognized as the top service award honoree with 9,500 lifetime hours.
